14th International Metrology Congress in Paris, June 2009 - Call for papers - August, 2008
The 14th International Metrology Congress will be held in Paris (Palais des Congrès, Porte Maillot) from 22 to 25 June 2009.The aim of the congress is to assess developments in Metrology and their applications for industry, R&D and society, promote measurement, contribute to improving measurements processes ans review progress in innovative technologies.
Please note that proposals must be received no later than 20 September 2008.

First European meeting on Metrology of Biofuels - Call for papers - August, 2008
First workshop organised by LNE, PTB and the Collège Français de Métrologie will be held in Strasbourg on November 6 & 7 and will deal with metrology on all biomaterials used for energy production.

LNE receives COFRAC accreditation for surface texture measurement
Following the development of a new measurement bench for surface texture reference standards, the fruit of a partnership between LNE (bench architect) and Digital Surf (axis control, data acquisition), LNE has been accredited by French accreditation committee COFRAC to calibrate surface texture reference standards.

Interlaboratory comparison in the field of metrology of pressure - register now - January 2008
Since 2006 LNE has run interlaboratory calibration comparisons, in cooperation with French accreditation committee COFRAC. Organized according to ISO/IEC Guide 43 Proficiency Testing by Interlaboratory Comparisons, these comparisons are open to all calibration laboratories, whether accredited or not. They enable participating laboratories to assess and demonstrate the quality of their measurements, and are also a useful benchmarking tool.

Digital archiving: digital optical disk research unit sounds the alarm again - January 2008
A vast amount of information - in scientific, medical, administrative and artistic fields, among many others - is now archived on digital media.
Two recent articles* warn once again of the dangers we face if important data is archived on digital media with a relatively short lifetime. The articles are based on studies carried out by the digital optical disk research unit (GIS-DON, a Scientific Interest Group formed in 2004).
