CE marking and UKCA marking of outdoor equipment

Manufacturers of equipment intended for use outside buildings must guarantee compliance with the requirements of the Outdoor Noise Directive 2000/14/EC and the UK Noise in the Environment Regulations 2001 No. 1701. LNE Group is the only European notified body to offer a complete range of services for issuing CE and UKCA certificates of conformity for such equipment, and for measuring sound power levels to ISO 3744 under Cofrac* accreditation.

Regulatory context

The placing on the market of equipment falling within the scope of European Directive 2000/14/EC requires manufacturers to:

  • display a guaranteed sound power level,
  • affix a CE mark,
  • hold a CE declaration of conformity.
Did you know?

Following a decision by the UK authorities, the CE mark continues to be recognized for the UK marketing of your products and equipment currently covered by Directive 2000/14 and meeting the requirements of UK Regulations 2001 n° 1701.

Equipment evaluation procedure

All the products concerned are listed in either Article 12 or Article 13 of Directive 2000/14/EC (equivalent to Schedule 1 and Schedule 2 of UK Regulations 2001 No. 1701).

The equipment listed in Article 13 (Schedule 2 of the UK Regulations 2001 No. 1701) is subject to noise marking.

The equipment listed in Article 12 (Schedule 1 of the UK Regulations 2001 No. 1701) is subject to noise emission limits and may not circulate on the European market (or the UK market) without certification issued by a notified body (for the European Union) or an approved body (for Great Britain).

As a Notified Body (n°0071) for the application of Directive 2000/14/EC and an Approved Body for the UK market (LNE-GMED UK, UKAB 8521), LNE Group carries out conformity assessments of the equipment listed in these regulations, applying the assessment procedure defined in Annex VI (Schedule 9 of UK Regulations 2001 No. 1701).

  • Assessment by the notified body before the product is placed on the market, with the manufacturer or his authorized representative providing technical documentation containing detailed information;
  • Assessment by the notified body during production, by carrying out a "periodic inspection" or a "random product inspection" at the choice of the manufacturer or his authorized representative.

Prior to marking, and depending on the manufacturer's requirements, LNE carries out COFRAC* accredited sound emission measurements to ISO 3744 to guarantee the sound power level of equipment, or to validate the sound power level declared by the manufacturer.
