In 2018, as the 26th General Conference on Weights and Measures is being held, four units of the International System of Units (the kilogram, the ampere, the Kelvin and the mole) are scheduled to be redefined. These modified standards should be established on the basis of fundamental constants from the field of physics. This effort requires refining the values of such constants as accurately as possible: LNE researchers have recently obtained some outstanding results on the values of both the Boltzmann constant for redefining the Kelvin and Planck's constant for the kilogram.
