Safety of electrical and electronic products

In application of European Directives (Medical devices, Low Voltage, Machine, etc.), electrical or electronic products and devices must satisfy a number of standard requirements in order to guarantee the safety of both property and individuals, as regards electrical, mechanical, thermal and fire risks. For this purpose, LNE Laboratory is eager to guide you in determining the services you'll need to satisfy such requirements.

Electrical and electronic products or equipment may pose risks to people and property (electric shock, fire, mechanical hazards, etc.). The application of safety standards allows the effectiveness of the device’s protective measures to be assessed.

As part of the  CE marking process, compliance with harmonised standards provides a presumption of conformity with the requirements of applicable directives and regulations. To assess compliance with these standards, LNE offers both testing services and documentation reviews.

To anticipate potential non-conformities, LNE recommends familiarising yourself with the regulatory framework as early as the product design phase and conducting pre-tests throughout development.

Electrical safety services

Our team of electrical safety experts, actively involved in various technical and standardisation committees, is ready to assist with safety-related or market access issues for your electrical or electronic products, whether intended for the medical, household, or industrial sectors.

Whatever the stage in your product’s lifecycle (R&D, design, industrialisation, upgrade/modification), LNE offers a comprehensive range of services to meet your needs, whether through technical assistance or testing:

  • Technical and regulatory support to help you understand the standards applicable to your product
  • Technical and normative assessments to anticipate and incorporate standard requirements during product development, helping to prevent non-compliances
  • Development of bespoke test methods for products not covered by existing standards
  • Support in drafting your qualification plans
  • Execution of the tests defined in your qualification plans or specifications
  • Full product evaluation in accordance with applicable IEC/EN/NF standards
  • Training in electrical safety and EMC to understand the relevant normative frameworks and identify essential technical requirements

Thanks to our multidisciplinary expertise and comprehensive testing facilities, our electrical safety testing services cover all applicable normative requirements: safety and electrical hazard testing, EMC testing, optical and acoustic safety, fire safety, and more.

Examples of tests:

  • Dielectric and insulation tests
  • Electrical continuity tests
  • Residual voltage measurements
  • Contact voltage and leakage current measurements
  • Power consumption measurements
  • Mechanical tests (stability, drop, impact, bending)
  • Ingress protection (IP) rating assessment
  • Mechanical impact protection (IK) rating assessment
  • Fire tests (glow-wire, needle flame, ball pressure, etc.)
  • Heating/temperature rise measurements
  • Simulation of fault conditions
  • Clearance and creepage distance measurements
  • Verification of instructions and product labelling
