To ensure the traceability of your measurements and the marketing of your instruments, LNE offers a wide range of calibration services for connection to the international system of units, as well as legal metrology services.
As a reference metrology laboratory, LNE calibrates measuring instruments of all sizes, offers regulatory checks on sound level meters, and qualifies installers and checkers of alcohol ignition interlock devices.
It is also a notified body for legal metrology, assessing the conformity of regulated measuring instruments to the requirements of national regulations and Directives 2014/31/EU (NAWI) and 2014/32/EU (MID). It issues the corresponding certificates (EU type examination, EU design examination, quality system approvals), as well as OIML CS certificates to facilitate international exports.
As a reference body, the National Laboratory of Metrology and Testing (LNE) offers you a wide range of calibration services in all fields of thermal, energy, mechanical, optical, photonic, chemical and biological quantities, and electrical.
Our calibration laboratories in Trappes, Paris, Nîmes and Poitiers are accredited by COFRAC*, and offer you the widest range of services on the market with the best possible level of uncertainty.
We regularly take part in inter-laboratory comparisons at international level (CIPM Key comparisons), and at European level organised by Euramet and EA, enabling our calibration certificates to be recognised internationally.

To be marketed in France, Europe, and around the world, measuring instruments used for commercial transactions or operations involving public health or safety must meet the requirements of the regulatory provisions known as "legal metrology".
Automatic (AWI) and non-automatic (NAWI) weighing instruments, water meters, electricity meters, gas meters, thermal energy meters, taximeters, breathalyzers, speed sensors, exhaust gas analyzers, dimensional measuring instruments, etc.
The EU-type examination is the part of the conformity assessment procedure by which a notified body, such as LNE, examines the technical design of an instrument, verifies and certifies that it meets the requirements of the current Directive that apply to it.
Good to know: LNE also approves measurement vessel plans.
Obtaining an OIML CS certificate makes it easier for you to market your instruments in all the countries using the system.
LNE is recognized for issuing OIML CS certificates for different categories regulated measuring instruments.
>> How to obtain an OIML certificate
Regulations may require the certification of the quality system of manufacturers, installers and repairers of regulated measuring instruments. This certification may therefore be required in the context of CE marking and the application of Directives 2014/31/EU (IPFNA) and 2014/32/EU (MID) for which LNE is a designated body.
As a person responsible for noise pollution prevention and compliance with noise regulations, you are required to use sound level meters which, as legal metrology devices, must be checked.

In order to ensure that an alcohol interlock (AIS) is working properly and that it does not impact the vehicle's compliance, it must be installed and checked periodically by a qualified company. LNE is designated by the Ministry of Ecological Transition to qualify installers and verifiers as AIS.

Do you need to ensure the validity of your measurement results, monitor your lab's performance, and build customer confidence? The interlaboratory comparisons (CIL) or proficiency tests (EdA in french) proposed by LNE meet these objectives.
The CILs we offer are, by definition and design, proficiency tests (EdA in french). They enable you to meet the requirements of chapter 7.7.2a of ISO/IEC 17025.
