As a long-standing player in road safety thanks to its expertise in metrology, measurement, calibrations, legal metrology and photonics, and its participation in various standardization work, LNE fulfills its public service mission of supporting regulations and policies for the protection of users.
Road safety services
From the verification of breathalyzers to the performance tests of road signs, including the qualification of installers and verifiers of alcohol interlocks or the verification of speed radars, LNE offers a range of services to ensure the efficiency and reliability of accident control and prevention equipment.
LNE ensures that the equipment used for road safety (breathalyzers, breathalyzers, radar speed sensors, etc.) complies with French and international standards in terms of performance, reliability and precision.
- Regulatory verification of breathalyzers or breathalyzer tests
- Validation of speed cameras (automatic control devices: fixed and mobile speed radars).
Legal metrology : as a reference body in metrology, LNE guarantees the traceability of measurements; a crucial aspect for the reliability of tools used in the context of road safety (for example, guarantees the quality of measuring instruments such as radar speed sensors, breathalyzers, etc.).
- Certification of legal metrology instruments
- NF Breathalyzer certification (in french only): chemical and electronic breathalyzers
Road signs and safety display products can be classified into 5 main families, distinguished by the nature of the tests carried out and the normative and regulatory standards:
- variable message signs,
- traffic lights,
- taxi lights and taximeters,
- Delineators / Retro-reflectors / Traffic cones
- Photoluminescent products for safety displays or the materialization of emergency exits.
LNE supports the manufacturers of these products in assessing their performance and validating their compliance with the regulations and standards in force from design to marketing by means of tests carried out under Cofrac* accreditation.
>> Photometric performance testing of road signs and safety display products (in french only)
In order to ensure that an alcohol interlock (EAD) is working properly and that it does not impact the vehicle's compliance, it must be installed and checked periodically by a qualified company. LNE is designated by the Ministry of Ecological Transition to qualify installers and verifiers as alcohol interlocks (EADs).
>> Qualification of Alcohol Immobilizer Installers and Checkers (in french only)
To be placed on the market, breathalyzers and breathalyzers must meet normative and regulatory obligations. Having reference materials allows you to calibrate and verify your calibration and verification systems, and to control and validate your breathalyzer production. LNE offers two ranges of reference materials for hydroalcoholic solutions, a certified range and a standard range.
Why choose LNE
- Participation in standardization work on breathalyzers: LNE contributes to improving the reliability of the test methods for chemical breathalyzers defined in the new NF X20-702 standard
- Participation in the revision of the EN 12368: 2016 standard "Traffic regulation equipment – Signals" relating to traffic lights within the French commission
- Contribution to the implementation of the State's road safety policy for many years, through the certification of speed sensors, light radars and breathalyzers
- 1st organization in the world accredited "OIML Testing laboratory"
- The first testing laboratory to have participated in the European Technical Committee for Standardization CEN/TC 367 and the only laboratory to be currently present in the French Commission.
- Participation in the SVA project of the IRT SystemX numerical simulation aimed at verifying the safety of the autonomous vehicle (a method for characterizing the on-board radar sensors and evaluating the performance of the algorithms was defined in order to test their reliability under various influencing factors).
