To reduce pollution and the impact of climate change, while ensuring sustainable economic growth, LNE offers a range of services to meet the challenges of sustainable development and the energy transition.
Through its various areas of activity (certification, metrology, testing, technical assistance, etc.), LNE helps companies to promote their commitment to sustainable development, to meet regulatory obligations and to assess the performance of their measuring instruments used in the environmental and energy fields.
Energy and ecological transition
Thanks to its expertise, measurement and testing resources, research activities and multidisciplinary approach, LNE meets the needs of the energy transition.
Vehicle recharging incorporates energy metering systems, which are part of the legal metrology designed to ensure that consumers are billed an amount that corresponds to the energy delivered. The legal metrology regulations were amended in March 2022 to cover the technologies used, in particular DC fast-charging stations.
Legal metrology covers all the regulations put in place by the public authorities, at both national and European level, to guarantee the quality and accuracy of the measuring instruments used.
LNE offers the following services:
- Environmental testing (EMC, vibrations, climatic) to test their robustness
- Certification of their design in accordance with regulatory requirements and issue of a type-examination certificate
- Certification of manufacturers' quality management systems (manufacturing, installation and use phases).

- Legal metrology certification of hydrogen refuelling station measurement systems (Type Examination Certificate).
To check that your instruments and measurement chains are working properly, LNE can help you characterise the electrical characteristics of equipment and recommend corrective action.
Our experts can provide technical assistance in setting up your measurement bench and propose appropriate controls to demonstrate control of your manufacturing processes and energy expenditure.
LNE provides technical solutions* enabling local authorities to implement their action programmes as part of public policies for ecological transition (obligation to implement a PCAET, multiannual energy programming (PPE) and France Relance economic recovery plan):
- Solar cadastre*, to identify the best sites for installing photovoltaic panels on roofs, on the ground, on industrial wasteland and in car park shaded areas.
- Aerial and terrestrial thermography, to identify insulation defects on roofs and facades.
- Mapping outdoor lighting*, to reduce energy consumption and light pollution.
- Mapping urban heat islands*, to identify areas susceptible to summer overheating and to renaturalise towns.

LNE offers a range of certifications to help companies improve their energy efficiency.
- ISO 50001Certification, Energy Management System (EMS): implementing an ISO 50001 approach enables an organisation to effectively reduce its energy consumption and thus improve its competitiveness by cutting costs.
- ISO 14001 Certification : this ISO 14001 certification means that your good environmental practices are recognised by clients, investors and public authorities.
- Quality - Safety - Environment (QSE) certification: this combined Quality (ISO 9001) Safety (ISO 45001) Environment (ISO 14001) allows us to put in place an effective environmental management system and demonstrate our commitment to protecting the environment.
- Qualification of energy audit providers*: this qualification certifies an organisation's ability to carry out an energy audit in accordance with European Directive 2012/27/EU on energy efficiency, which is mandatory for companies with more than 250 employees.

Sustainable development
As a certification body, LNE offers a range of certifications to meet the challenges of reuse, recyclability and the ecological transition.
- Incorporation of Recycled Plastics" certification*: this voluntary certification demonstrates and enhances the company's commitment to an environmental approach aimed at massively decarbonising industrial activity and reducing the use of non-renewable natural resources, thereby meeting the expectations of the principles of the circular economy, as set out in the AGEC law.
- Certification Operation Clean Sweep Europe (OCS Europe)*: this voluntary certification demonstrates and enhances the company's environmental commitment to preventing the loss of plastic particles.
- Audit of the prevention of losses of industrial plastic granules into the environment *:this audit covers the measures taken to prevent losses and discharges into the environment by manufacturers handling or transporting industrial plastic granules (IPGs).
- LNE Polluted Sites and Soils certification* enables those responsible for redeveloping polluted sites and soils to easily identify specialist service providers.

Our testing facilities are also adapted to meet the need for air and water quality analyses.
- LNE Water quality certification* on biomonitoring methods, which will boost the confidence of those involved in assessing the quality of water and aquatic environments.
- Performance evaluation of measuring instruments for environmental monitoring (air and water) to comply with European directives.
- Assessing the metrological performance of sensor systems* for measuring air quality
- Aerosol characterisation to measure inhalation exposure of workers and the public to particulate matter in ambient air.
- Evaluation of the powderiness of nanostructured powders* in accordance with standards: EN 17199-5: 2019 and XP CEN ISO/TS 12025: 2015 to assess the health risks associated with the inhalation of nanoparticles in the workplace.
- Reference materials for measuring the pH of seawater* and monitor changes in ocean acidification.

By taking part in numerous European research projects, LNE contributes to the traceability of environmental measurements and supports efforts to monitor and reduce greenhouse gas emissions, thereby contributing to the environmental protection and public health. (in french)
As a major player in metrology, it plays a key role in providing public authorities, industry and the scientific community with metrological tools to guarantee data quality and support environmental monitoring. It develops reference methods and materials for air and water quality, in collaboration with LCSQA and AQUAREF. It is also conducting research projects into microplastic pollution, endocrine-disrupting substances and volatile organic compounds, as well as the problem of ocean acidification.
